Seagull Studio: a local Resemble AI alternative for Mac
Resemble AI still clones voices and ships Chatterbox as open weights, but its public site in 2026 is a deepfake-detection company: Detect, watermarks, meetings security. Seagull Studio is the simpler local option — a native macOS app that clones a voice from 10 seconds and generates speech on Apple Silicon, offline after the model downloads, for $11.99 once. One of the models in the app is Chatterbox. This page is for people who found Resemble because they wanted a clone, not a SIEM integration.
What is each product?
Resemble AI is two businesses sharing a brand. On the creation side: Rapid Clone from about 10 seconds, Professional Clone from 10–25 minutes of audio, a cloud API, speech-to-speech, and Chatterbox (MIT-licensed, 23 languages). On the trust side — now the homepage — Detect, PerTh watermarking, identity matching and on-prem detection appliances.
Seagull Studio is a native macOS app for local voice cloning and text-to-speech that runs entirely on Apple Silicon, with no subscription and no cloud synthesis. It packages 6 on-device models, including Chatterbox (~13 GB, 23 languages) and Chatterbox Turbo (~4 GB, English). It does not detect deepfakes and does not watermark output.
How do they differ?
| Seagull Studio | Resemble AI | |
|---|---|---|
| Main job today | Local cloning and TTS on a Mac | Cloud cloning / API, plus enterprise deepfake Detect |
| Where synthesis happens | On your Mac | Resemble cloud, or self-hosted Chatterbox / on-prem |
| Works offline | Yes, after the model is downloaded | Only if you self-host Chatterbox yourself |
| Clone from a short sample | Yes, from 10 seconds | Rapid Clone ~10 seconds; Professional Clone 10–25+ minutes |
| Chatterbox | Shipped as an on-device model in the app | MIT weights + hosted API; Turbo and Pro variants |
| Price (creation) | $11.99 once | Flex credits; first clone free, then about $2 per extra clone |
| Price (Detect) | Not offered | Flex $0 + usage; Team $350/mo; Business $1,000/mo |
| Watermark / Detect | No | PerTh watermark, Detect, Identity, Meetings |
| HTTP API | No; local MCP tools | Yes |
| Platform | macOS 14+ on Apple Silicon | Cloud, API, on-prem; open-source self-host |
Why not just pip-install Chatterbox?
That is a fair question, and it is the same one Fish Audio gets for open weights. Chatterbox is MIT-licensed. An ML engineer can run it. A narrator who wants a chapter tonight needs a sample manager, a model picker, language preprocessing, history and an export button. Seagull Studio is that packaging, with Chatterbox as one of the six options, plus smaller and broader models (Supertonic + OpenVoice at about 0.7 GB and up to 31 languages).
Resemble's hosted API is the other packaging: latency SLAs, watermarks, Professional Clone training, and a bill per second. That is the right buy if audio is a feature inside a product. It is the wrong buy if you just wanted the model on a laptop.
Resemble's pricing page is now Detect-first. If you landed there looking for a $29/month Creator plan, that consumer subscription is gone. What remains for generation is Flex credits and clone add-ons.
Where Resemble AI is better
- Detection and watermarking. If the problem is fraud, impersonation or EU AI Act labeling, that is Resemble's current center of gravity. Seagull Studio does not compete there.
- APIs and agents. Sub-200 ms streaming, speech-to-speech, on-prem for a service. Local MCP tools on one Mac are a different job.
- Professional Clone. 10–25 minutes of training audio and a longer fit. Seagull Studio's clones are the short-sample, on-device kind.
- Self-host on your own terms. Docker, Kubernetes, air-gap. Seagull Studio is an App Store binary, not a cluster chart.
Where Seagull Studio is better
- Zero setup for the same family of model. Chatterbox in a Mac UI, plus five other on-device options.
- Local by default. No upload for synthesis. Data Not Collected.
- One price, no credits. $11.99 once. No $2-per-clone storage line, no Detect invoice.
- Offline. After the download, generation does not need Resemble's API.
Which should you pick?
Pick Seagull Studio if you wanted Resemble for cloning and TTS on a Mac, not for Detect, and you would rather install an app than an inference stack.
Pick Resemble AI if you are embedding voice in a product, need watermarks, or are buying deepfake detection.
Pick both if you self-host Chatterbox in production and still want a local studio for personal narration — or if Detect is a separate budget line from generation.
Side-by-side generation examples are coming soon — the same script through Seagull Studio's Chatterbox build and Resemble's hosted clone, so you can hear the difference instead of taking anyone's word for it.
What you need to run Seagull Studio
macOS 14 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac; Intel Macs are not supported. The app is 377.5 MB. Chatterbox is the large download (~13 GB); you can skip it and use a smaller model. Export WAV or MP3.
Questions, answered.
Is Seagull Studio a local Resemble AI alternative?
For cloning a voice and generating speech on a laptop, yes. Resemble AI sells cloud voice creation plus Chatterbox open weights, and its public homepage in 2026 is built around deepfake detection. Seagull Studio is a $11.99 Mac app that runs selected on-device models — including Chatterbox — locally, with no API bill.
Resemble open-sourced Chatterbox. Why not just run that?
You can. Chatterbox is MIT-licensed. Seagull Studio already ships Chatterbox as one of its 6 on-device models, next to a sample manager, generation history and WAV/MP3 export, without you standing up Python, a GPU stack or an API key.
What does Resemble cost?
Voice cloning on the platform: first clone free, then about $2 per extra clone, with Flex credits for generation. Resemble's public pricing page also lists Detect plans from $0 Flex up to Team at $350 a month and Business at $1,000 a month. Enterprise is custom. Seagull Studio is $11.99 once and does not sell detection.
Does Seagull Studio watermark audio or detect deepfakes?
No. Resemble's PerTh watermark and Detect products are the reason many enterprises pay them. If that is the job, Resemble is the better fit. Seagull Studio generates speech on your Mac and stops there.
Does Seagull Studio have an API?
No HTTP API. Local MCP tools can drive generation on the same Mac. Resemble is built as an API for products and agents.
What Mac do I need?
macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon. Intel Macs are not supported.
